PhD Studentship in Production Technology – Specializing in metallurgy and characterization of steels deposited by Additive Manufacturing
Since 2008, University West has a specific research environment in Production Technologies, called Production Technology West (PTW), which includes research portfolios in Industrial Automation, Machining, Thermal Spraying, Additive Manufacturing and Welding. At the PTW environment, the Division of Welding Technology will host the PhD student. In this division, the research is conducted by a multi-disciplinary team including researchers in modelling and simulation of heat sources, researchers in process control and researchers in metallurgy and mechanical characterization.
Research in The Division of Welding Technology in the Department of Engineering Science focus around three main areas in relation to welding technology; Metallurgy, Process physics modelling, and Process development and control. Our main aim is to fundamentally study and improve understanding of welding processes and its influence on the materials. In a new project in cooperation with Swedish industry we seek a PhD student for a position at University West.

On behalf of the Welding Research Institute and the Slovak Welding Society, I have been granted the honour to invite you again after 40 years to the capital city of Bratislava for the biggest welding event in the world, the 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference, which will be held from July 7 to 12, 2019.
In 2019, the Welding Research Institute will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding. This will provide the opportunity to explore its 70-year history of research and development of materials, welding equipment, technologies related to the fusing of materials and cooperation with international institutions and organisations such as IIW and EWF.
The main topic of the International Conference and the event in general will be: “New Progressive Materials and Welding Methods in the Automotive Industry”.
Based on the success of the former YPIC events, the YPIC2019 will be the fifth event organized for Young Professionals world wide.
The aim of the event is to bring together young welding professionals of the world in the fields of welding and related technologies, to review recent achievements in the advancement of knowledge and understanding in these areas, share the latest developments and address the challenges for the present and the future.
